Your Reflexology treatment

A reflexologist performing a treatment on a patient's right foot.

What to expect

For the first appointment we will conduct a medical history and health consultation, which maybe done over the telephone ahead of the actual treatment. For the treatment you will need to remove your shoes and socks and then you will be reclined in a special reflexology chair (which is very comfortable). Using my thumbs or fingers I apply pressure to the reflexes on the feet working over the full foot in a full investigatory treatment to determine any out of balance reflexes.  Coupled with the health questionnaire we can then get a better understanding of what is actually going on for you and how you are feeling. Subsequent treatments will build on this and allow me to develop a treatment plan designed for you, aimed at treating your specific needs.

The end of the session will incorporate a relaxing foot massage. I have additional training to allow me to use essential oils which can be blended specially for you and your needs on the day, for example to help with aches and pains, relaxation, menopause etc. If you would like to harness the power of essential oils then please allow additional time for your treatment, see price list for more details.

My goal is for you to leave feeling relaxed and revived.

Getting the most out of your treatment

A relaxing forest scene is reflected in a droplet of water.

Before your treatment

Here are some suggestions for what you may wish to do before your treatment:

  • be well hydrated, try to sip water regularly throughout the day rather than drinking lots just before your treatment
  • deal with any foot issues (corns, verruca’s, athletes foot, hard skin) where possible.  If you aren’t able to eliminate them in time, don’t worry I can still treat with these, but may need to cover them up
  • Please let me know if you have any allergies or are vegan, so I can make sure I have suitable products for you
  • Please bring a list of medical conditions and medications you are currently taking to your first appointment.

During your treatment

Your reflexology treatment will be more effective if:

  • you are able to remove all distractions and close your eyes and just ‘be’. This allows your body to be its most receptive
  • you let me know if there is anything preventing you from relaxing (being too hot, too cold, if something doesn’t feel right etc). My aim is to work while you are in a relaxed state. Being deeply relaxed is so important as it allows your body to do its work (repairing and re-balancing), which it can't do if your body is in its 'stress' mode.
  • you let me know if you would like me to adjust my pressure, I do not want it to be too firm causing you to be tense or not firm enough. It is important that it is right for you.

After your treatment

People respond to reflexology differently and at the end of your treatment we will cover what you may experience and any post treatment care.

I recommend after your treatment:

  • have time to rest afterwards, so you can really enjoy the relaxed state you will be in and give your body the chance to really get the beneficial effects of Reflexology
  • please drink a couple of glasses of water and reduce caffeine, alcohol.  I can use grounding techniques if you would like them after your treatment please just ask me.
  • consider a series of regular treatments to really get results.  The first session can be about getting familiar with what is happening and getting used to me, I am also getting to know your feet in those first couple of sessions.  As we work together I can tailor your treatments for what you need and familiarity will bring relaxation more quickly and deeply, both enabling the reflexology to become more effective.  Reflexology can have a cumulative effect on the body.

Your wellbeing

Reflexology is a relaxing treatment, clients usually report they feel more energy, less tense and more relaxed afterwards. They also notice improvements to their sleep and their overall sense of wellbeing.

For me, I can best describe it as feeing ‘Amazing’.
