In the video below, I’ll guide you through simple hand reflexology techniques specifically aimed at relieving menopause symptoms. Explore reflexology for menopause with our labelled hand chart and detailed written guidance further down the page.
1) Solar Plexus – under the middle finger in centre of palm. Collapse the palm around the point. A calming point used in nearly all my treatments. Grounding. Good for stress, insomnia, palpitations, aches & pains.
2) Pineal Gland – outside corner of the thumb, work both thumbs together rocking motion onto each other. Good for sleep, SAD, depression.
3) Pituitary – located on the centre of the thumbprint swirls. Use other thumb, or index finger knuckle, to rotate into it. Do both thumbs. The Master Gland of our Hormonal System – use for all Hormone Imbalances (esp good for Hot Flushes!!!).
Hypothalamus – worked at the same time as Pituitary. Our control centre - Controls our body temperature, sleep patterns. Connects our Nervous System to our Endocrine System. Calming.
4) Thyroid – Neck of the thumb (between the lines). Use other index finger and thumb to create a lock, and sweep up & across with the side of the index finger. Do both thumbs. Energy/Fatigue/Hot Flushes. In TCM known as the 3rdovary.
5) Adrenals – Located on Palm, under index finger in line with base of the thumb. Rotate. Do both hands. Use for STRESS, aches and pains, hormone balance. For palpitations, high Blood Pressure, vasodilation – hot flushes and night sweats. Adrenal Fatigue. Hold to calm.
6) Pancreas – line across palm from thumb to under the ring finger. Left Hand only. Sweep. Supports the adrenals insulin/cortisol (Endocrine system – support all the glands, they all work together for hormonal balance!).
7) Ovary Reflex – located in dip in wrist crease, little finger side. Use index finger to rotate into. Leverage with thumb on opposite side of wrist (under thumb – uterus reflex, creates a nice energy link). Both hands. Regulation of oestrogen/progesterone, works with the Pituitary for LH and FSH (actually levels rise in Perimenopause, as the body tries to increase follicular activity). (Note for men these points are the testes and the prostate reflex points, so also valid points to work into).
8) Brain - Sweep ends of all fingers. To calm a busy brain/brain fog, Headaches.
No Rush, nice slow, rhythmic working.
Try to work each Reflex point for a couple of minutes, slowly, calmly and with nice deep breathing (great signal to the nervous system to be calm and relaxed). Do the routine as often as you like, daily – maybe at bedtime, or if you wake in the night.
As well as working the reflex points relevant for your symptoms Reflexology can also help support your wellbeing with the benefits of deep relaxation (I have clients comment on how restorative it is, and how they find it more relaxing than a massage!).
It is a lovely therapy that I wholeheartedly recommend everyone try. Only by trying it will you really know how it will work for you.
